The “grandma” scams, are also a common trick, Prusinski said, in which criminals will prey on vulnerable elderly persons by informing them that a grandchild, niece or nephew needs money wired urgently for one reason or another. In other instances, the scammer might tell them that they’ve won a large cash prize and need to wire money right away to collect on it.
